Ein Kindlein trägt Maria, die Magd, nach Gottes Willen,
Gott Sohn kommt, seine Liebe in unser Fleisch zu hüllen;

Den Vater anzubeten, im Heil´gen Geist zu leben,
das ist des Heilands Tagwerk, sein Ruhen und Erheben;
der stummen Predigt neiget Maria Herz und Sinn,
ihr ist, der Welt zu sterben, mit Jesus nur Gewinn.

Doch bald hört man ein Staunen: Ist das Mariä Sohn?
Er lehrt: Das Reich des Vaters will euer Herz als Thron.
Und segnend, mahnend, lehrend wirbt er sich eine Schar,
daβ sie die Welt gewinne für seinen Kreuzaltar.

Auf hoher Schädelstätte wird uns das Glück geboren:
Christ´ König geht zum Vater, dem Erdenblick verloren;
vom blut´gen Kreuz noch ruft er die Welt in letzter Qual;
das reinste Herz Mariä wird Mutter noch einmal.
